Pink – 4/5/11

"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is ~Audrey Hepburn~

Anybody who knows me, knows that I am not a pink kinda girl. They know I like to dress in black, they know I prefer yoga pants to dresses and they know that I live in my hoodie. Pink has always been too girly for me, too stereotypical.... Oddly enough, I am finding power in pink!

Over the years, I have added subtle hints of pink to my life, whether it was a cell phone cover, the phone itself or maybe a pink tang top to peak out from under a black shirt or a pink coffee mug. In an odd sense, it made me feel good. In my crazy life full of little men, pink made me feel a bit more in touch with my feminine side without all the frills of being girly!

I am currently finding strength in a colour that I have always avoided. Oddly enough, I find pink liberating, freeing! I have bought myself hot pink bed sheets and hot pink bath towels! They go in my room and bathroom, my space. They are just a small symbol, to me, of my strength to handle things on my own! They are my way of rebelling against all the machoism that I have been subjected to over the years. They are my way of saying "I AM FREE".

I am not going to go all crazy and paint any walls pink or make pink the main colour in my home, I do have boundaries. I know that the men in my life, especially my little men, may not appreciate the meaning of pink to me. I will however continue with my subtle reminders to myself that I am a strong, capable, courageous woman... who is free!

"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."
